Their Story

Amanda Ondrick

I am 17 years old and recently graduated from high school being on honour roll. I have just begun pure and applied science studies at Dawson college in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I was to have a bone marrow transplant last fall, but the doctors could not proceed with the transplant as a very rare occurrence took place – the cells in the bone marrow in essence arrived dead and as such the transplant could not take place.I am being closely monitored by Saint Justine’s children hospital in Montreal, and my condition is stable. Given my stable condition and current situation, my doctors will only proceed to a transplant with a very good high level match. My hope is to find such a match before my condition worsens and more urgency sets in. My adoptive parents are Caucasian and I do not have any blood relatives I could ever find. I am enjoying my studies and hope to one day pursue a career in math or science. I have two loving parents, two little dogs and a number of good friends
