Harper is 13 and happiest when she’s on the football field — training hard and talking all things sport with her mates. When she’s not playing, she’s laughing with her sister and spending time with her family. Like any kid her age, her world should be school, friends, and what’s next.

But for years, Harper was getting sick without answers.

She was eventually diagnosed with a rare immune condition, Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD), which makes it incredibly hard for her body to fight bacterial and fungal infections.

Now, Harper needs a blood stem cell transplant to have a healthy future. Her sister isn’t a match, which means her best chance is finding a stranger — someone willing to register and potentially become her lifesaving match.

Harper’s medical team has begun the search for a matching stem cell donor, but finding the right match isn’t easy. A successful match depends heavily on genetic heritage.

Harper has a rich and diverse background, including Aboriginal heritage, as well as English, Irish, Scottish, Scandinavian and Māori. But Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are underrepresented on the stem cell donor registry, making it much harder for patients like Harper to find the match they need.
