Their Story

Leia's search for a stem cell donor

Leia is a joyful three-year-old from Toronto who loves to swim and dance. She was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Dyskeratosis Congenita and currently needs a stem cell transplant to survive. Leia is half European and half Middle Eastern and desperately needs stem cells from a donor who shares her ethnicity. Our stem cell registries’ lack of ethnic diversity makes it less likely for patients like Leia to find life-saving stem cell donors. If you share Leia’s European-Middle Eastern ethnic background, please sign up to become a stem cell donor today!
