Nahed Seleem
Looking
Nahed Seleem is a mother of two, a wife, and a rather new grandmother to a 3 year old girl and 4 month old boy. She has an older brother and sister who also live around us, making family gatherings with all siblings, cousins and other children of our growing family very fortunate and special.
She loves to cook and bake, loves mathematics, and loves time around family. Whenever she has good enough health, she volunteers on Saturdays at her church community for senior citizens - organizing trips, lunches, dinners and social time for about 50 to 100 senior citizens in her church community.
After being in remission from AML for about 8 months, recently we learned it has returned. She is currently going through forms of chemotherapy again in the hard working goal of getting to a place with her levels to have a stem cell transplant. There is currently no match for her, but the team is on alert to check constantly every time a new registration is in the database.
She is motivated by this campaign because it does two things: it may increase the chance for a match to her, and also increases the chances for a higher rate of others that may need a match now, or in the future - possibly from our same large Egyptian/Middle Eastern community. She does not want others to have to wait or wonder if a family member's life is at risk without matching stem cells. She is shy about putting her name and face out there, but only agreed knowing people connect with stories they can relate to, or simply happy to realize the opportunity that is out there for ordinarily healthy and willing people to help save lives.
The Seleem family is very thankful for everyone's support and how a community can come together, whether or not they know Nahed. The strength and information by more people is really making a difference.
