Their Story

ZOE'S JOURNEY WITH DIAMOND BLACKFAN ANEMIA

My name is Zoe Dudzianiec. I am 7 years old and was diagnosed with a rare bone marrow failure disorder called diamond blackfan anemia at only 24 hours old. This disorder prevents my bone marrow from making any red blood cells, and less than 1% of the world's population has it! This disorder does not run in my family (it’s a random gene deletion that no one in my family carries).

Currently, I need to travel for over 4 hours to Toronto SickKids Hospital every 10 days to receive treatment. On top of doing this, I need to receive a 10-hour nightly infusion via an IV pump (called chelation therapy) to remove the iron from the blood transfusions I've received so the blood transfusions don't kill me. I've been doing this since birth and have received over 300 blood transfusions and 4,500 pokes.

Right now, I urgently need to find a compatible stem cell donor to survive. Please help me find my match by signing up to become a donor today!
